Position overview:

SBMA is seeking a General Counsel of Client Solutions to join its growing team. This role serves as a strategic legal leader and trusted business advisor, providing practical, risk-aligned legal guidance related to insurance and benefits administration, client contracts, and regulatory compliance. The General Counsel of Client Solutions partners closely with executive leadership to support growth initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and develop scalable legal frameworks aligned with operational needs.

Key responsibilities and duties:

• Support sales and client solutions teams by providing timely, practical legal guidance that enables deal execution while managing risk.
• Advise on federal and state insurance laws and regulations applicable to TPAs, including ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and state TPA licensing requirements.
• Interpret regulatory changes and assess impact on client contracts, service models, and product offerings.
• Identify legal and operational risks associated with client solutions, benefit administration and data handling.
• Act as a trusted advisor balancing legal requirements with business strategy.
• Support executive leadership with governance matters impacting client solutions.

Required Qualifications:

• J.D. and active bar membership.
• 8+ years of relevant legal experience in health benefits, self-funded plans, or TPAs.
• Strong knowledge of ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, and multi-state TPA compliance.
• Experience negotiating complex contracts.
