About the Role
Next Ventures is currently executing a search for an experienced (SAP FI SME) with proven expertise in securing SAP Financial Accounting (FI) processes within SAP S/4HANA Defence & Security environments (including Legacy DFPS/DFPS compatibility mode where applicable).

This contract role supports critical, long-term public sector/defence programmes across EU-based initiatives. You will focus on protecting sensitive financial data, budgets, funds management, commitments, and accounting transactions in mission-critical defence contexts - such as force element budgeting, operational expenditure tracking, classified fund handling, and compliance with defence financial regulations.
The position combines deep SAP FI authorization knowledge with RADS (Roles and Authorizations for Defence & Security) enhancements, context-based structural authorizations tied to force elements, segregation of duties (SoD) for financial processes, and defence-grade data protection (eg, encryption, masking for sensitive financial/classified data). Emphasis is on ensuring least-privilege access, auditability, and alignment with national security classifications, NATO standards, and MoD/public sector frameworks in hybrid, on-premise, and disconnected SAP landscapes.
Ideal for security-cleared (or clearable) SAP FI specialists with hands-on experience in regulated defence or government ERP implementations, where financial data is highly sensitive and subject to strict controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain security and authorization concepts for SAP FI in SAP S/4HANA Defence & Security, leveraging RADS for force element-based access, organizational flexibility, and context-dependent authorizations (eg, fund centres, commitment items, and force structures)
  • Secure SAP FI processes in defence contexts - including General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable/Receivable (AP/AR), Asset Accounting (AA), Funds Management (FM), Budget Control, and integration with force element budgeting, mission accounting, and operational finance
  • Configure advanced data security & protection features for sensitive FI data: field/column-level masking, encryption, pseudonymization, retention/deletion via SAP ILM, and handling of classified financial information in compliance with defence standards
  • Conduct Security & Privacy Impact Assessments (including equivalent DPIAs) for SAP D&S FI implementations, custom developments, integrations (eg, with external defence budgeting or payroll systems), and disconnected/offline operational scenarios
  • Ensure compliance with defence-specific regulations, security classifications (eg, Official-Sensitive/SECRET), financial controls in defence (MoD/NATO frameworks), GDPR where personal data intersects with finance, and programme security requirements
  • Collaborate with D&S functional FI/CO experts, finance/business leads, security officers, DPO/legal teams, and military stakeholders to translate defence financial security needs into SAP technical controls
  • Define and enforce sensitive financial data classification, discovery, and protection policies for FI objects, force elements, and budget-related data in SAP
  • Support SAP GRC integration in D&S environments (Access Request Management, Business Role Management, Emergency Access, Continuous Controls Monitoring) with strong focus on FI SoD risks (eg, invoice posting vs. approval, budget commitment conflicts), privileged access in operational finance, and audit evidence
  • Perform regular security audits, SoD/conflict analysis, risk assessments, and reviews - emphasizing financial data exposure, force structure access risks, and vulnerabilities in disconnected/hybrid landscapes
  • Monitor SAP D&S FI systems for unauthorized access to classified/sensitive financial data; contribute to incident response and forensic activities in secure defence environments
  • Provide expert guidance on secure custom development (ABAP, Fiori) and extensions in FI/D&S modules, embedding security-by-default and defence compliance
  • Stay current with SAP D&S roadmap (eg, enhancements for force element costing, disconnected operations, financial readiness analytics) and evolving defence/financial/security regulations
  • Support security awareness training for defence users handling SAP FI/D&S financial data under classified conditions

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 6-10+ years in SAP Security, with 4+ years focused on SAP FI in high-security or regulated environments
  • Hands-on experience securing SAP Financial Accounting (FI) modules (GL, AP/AR, AA, FM) - ideally in defence, public sector, aerospace, or government programmes
  • Strong expertise in SAP authorization framework (PFCG, SUIM, SU24, Fiori security) combined with D&S/RADS capabilities (eg, force element-dependent roles, context-based structural authorizations for financial objects)
  • Proven implementation of data protection controls (masking, encryption, ILM) for financial/sensitive data in SAP
  • Solid understanding of defence & security compliance (national classifications, NATO/MoD financial standards, personnel vetting impacts on finance access, disconnected environment security)
  • Experience with SAP GRC in regulated setups, SoD analysis for FI processes, and production of compliance/audit documentation
  • Familiarity with SAP in hybrid/cloud (RISE with SAP, BTP) and on-premise/disconnected deployments

Preferred Skills & Certifications

  • SAP certifications: SAP Certified Technology Associate - System Security (S/4HANA), SAP FI/Financials certifications, SAP Defence & Security Overview (eg, IDS10/IDS equivalents), or SAP GRC
  • Security/Privacy certifications: CISSP, CISM, CDPSE, or defence-aligned qualifications
  • Knowledge of SAP HANA security (row-level, analytic privileges) in FI/D&S contexts
  • Understanding of defence integrations (eg, secure financial mobility, NATO-compliant reporting)
  • Current or eligible security clearance (SC/DV or equivalent EU/national level) - essential for programme access
  • Experience with SAP D&S (DFPS/D&S), long-term public sector/defence programmes, and NATO/MoD frameworks

Personal Attributes

  • Security-first mindset with meticulous attention to detail in classified/mission-critical financial settings
  • Strong analytical skills for complex, high-stakes finance systems
  • Excellent communication to bridge technical FI teams, military/finance stakeholders, and senior leadership
  • Proactive, resilient, and comfortable with strict confidentiality, compliance, and clearance demands
  • Team player experienced in multi-agency, international defence or public sector projects

Apply with your CV, current clearance status/eligibility, and details of your most relevant SAP FI security project in defence, public sector, or regulated industries.
