Security/Firewall Engineer

6-month contract (Inside IR35) - Start ASAP

Location & Working Pattern

• Hybrid: 3 days per week onsite, office preferred: London

Role Overview

The role focuses on the operational management, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise-grade Firewalls within a telecommunications environment.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong technical expertise in Checkpoint and Fortinet Firewalls, capable of working independently while maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Operational management of Checkpoint and Fortinet Firewalls
• Plan and execute Firewall patching and software upgrades, including pre- and post-change validation
• Perform fault finding, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting of Firewall and security incidents
• Ensure Firewall configurations align with operational, security, and network standards
• Support BAU activities and contribute to service stability and continuous improvement
• Produce and maintain clear technical documentation where required
• Communicate effectively with network, security, and operations teams to resolve issues efficiently

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with Checkpoint and Fortinet Firewalls
• Proven experience managing patching, upgrades, and operational support
• Demonstrable fault finding and troubleshooting capability in complex network environments
• Telecommunications background (essential)
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables
• Strong communication skills, both technical and non-technical
