About the Role
We are seeking an experienced SAP Defence & Security (D&S) Security Professional with specialised expertise in securing SAP HR/HCM processes within SAP S/4HANA Defence & Security environments.
This contract role supports high-stakes, mission-critical defence programmes across EU-based initiatives, ensuring robust protection of sensitive personnel data, compliance with stringent national and international security standards, and secure handling of HR-related processes in classified or operational contexts (eg, force readiness, personnel deployment, vetting integration, and disconnected operations).
You will combine deep SAP authorization expertise - enhanced by RADS (Roles and Authorizations for Defence & Security) - with advanced data security and privacy controls tailored to defence-grade requirements. Emphasis is on SAP HR modules (Personnel Administration, Organizational Management, Time Management, Payroll, Talent Management) integrated with D&S force elements, structural authorizations, and context-based access for personnel in peacetime, exercise, operational, and wartime structures.
This position is suited for security-cleared (or clearable) professionals with proven experience in regulated defence ERP environments, where personnel data is classified, subject to vetting, and governed by frameworks such national security classifications, NATO standards, and defence-specific data protection rules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain security and authorization concepts for SAP S/4HANA Defence & Security, leveraging RADS for force element-based access, organizational flexibility, and context-based structural authorizations tied to HR objects and force structures
  • Secure SAP HR/HCM in defence contexts - including personnel master data, force generation, readiness tracking, deployment records, vetting status, and classified HR information - ensuring least-privilege access and segregation of duties (SoD)
  • Configure advanced data security & privacy features for sensitive HR/personnel data: dynamic/field-level masking, anonymization, pseudonymization, encryption, retention/deletion via SAP ILM, and compliance with defence classification levels
  • Conduct Privacy & Security Impact Assessments (DPIAs/equivalent) for SAP D&S HR implementations, custom developments, integrations (eg, with vetting, payroll, or external secure systems), and disconnected/offline scenarios
  • Ensure full compliance with defence regulations, security classifications (eg, Official-Sensitive/SECRET), GDPR in defence contexts, personnel vetting protocols, NATO interoperability standards, and programme-specific security requirements
  • Collaborate closely with D&S functional consultants, HR/business leads, security officers, DPO/legal teams, and military stakeholders to translate defence & personnel security needs into SAP technical controls
  • Define and enforce sensitive data classification, discovery, and protection policies for HR objects, force elements, and personnel-related data in SAP
  • Support SAP GRC processes in D&S environments (Access Request Management, Business Role Management, Emergency Access, Continuous Monitoring) with focus on HR SoD risks, privileged access in operational scenarios, and audit trails
  • Perform regular security audits, SoD/conflict analysis, risk assessments, and reviews - emphasizing HR data exposure, force structure access risks, and vulnerabilities in hybrid/disconnected landscapes
  • Monitor systems for unauthorized access to classified/sensitive HR or personnel data; contribute to incident response and forensic activities in secure defence environments
  • Provide expert guidance on secure custom development (ABAP, Fiori) and extensions in D&S/HR modules, embedding privacy-by-design and defence security defaults
  • Stay current with SAP D&S roadmap (eg, enhancements for disconnected operations, force management, organizational flexibility) and evolving defence/security/privacy regulations
  • Support security awareness and training for defence users handling SAP HR/D&S data under classified conditions 

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 6-10+ years in SAP Security, with 4+ years in SAP Defence & Security (D&S/DFPS) or equivalent high-security military/government ERP implementations
  • Hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA Defence & Security, including force elements, RADS authorizations, context-based structural authorizations, and disconnected operations
  • Strong expertise in SAP HR/HCM security (PA, OM, PT, PY modules) in regulated/high-security sectors
  • Deep knowledge of SAP authorization framework (PFCG, SUIM, SU24, Fiori security) extended by D&S/RADS capabilities (eg, force structure-dependent roles, DFS_ASSGM1 assignment objects)
  • Proven implementation of data masking, encryption, ILM, and privacy controls for personal/classified data in SAP HR and D&S
  • Solid understanding of defence & security compliance (national classifications, personnel vetting, GDPR application in defence, NATO standards, disconnected environment security)
  • Experience with SAP GRC in defence setups, SoD for HR/force processes, and audit/compliance evidence production
  • Familiarity with SAP in hybrid/cloud (RISE with SAP, BTP) and on-premise/disconnected deployments

Preferred Skills & Certifications

  • SAP certifications: SAP Certified Technology Associate - System Security (S/4HANA), SAP Defence & Security Overview (eg, IDS10/IDS20 equivalents), SAP HR/HCM Security, or SAP GRC
  • Privacy/Security certifications: CIPP/E, CDPSE, CISSP, or defence-aligned qualifications
  • Knowledge of SAP HANA security (row-level, analytic privileges) in D&S/HR contexts
  • Understanding of defence integrations (secure mobility, offline apps, NATO-compliant systems)
  • Current or eligible security clearance (SC/DV or equivalent EU/national level) - essential for programme access
