SAP Defence & Security (D&S) Technical Solution Architect - SAP Enterprise Integration

  • Duration: Initial 12-month contract with extensions (programme duration up to 3 years)
  • Work Model: On-site/hybrid (dependent on security requirements)
  • Remote Working: Possible, subject to programme security constraints

  • Location: EU-based projects
  • Eligibility:
    • EU or UK passport holders
    • Willingness to undergo security clearance process

Role Overview
The SAP Defence & Security (D&S) Technical Solution Architect - Enterprise Integration is responsible for the end-to-end design, integration, and technical architecture of SAP D&S (formerly DFPS) solutions within secure defence and public sector environments.
The role focuses on enterprise integration, ensuring SAP D&S solutions are robustly integrated with SAP S/4HANA and surrounding SAP and non-SAP systems, while meeting stringent defence, security, and compliance standards.
You will work closely with defence stakeholders, functional consultants, cybersecurity teams, and integration architects to deliver secure, scalable, and compliant SAP Defence solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Solution Architecture & Design

  • Lead requirement-gathering workshops with defence stakeholders (military, logistics, operations, security teams).
  • Translate defence operational processes into SAP D&S/DFPS solution architecture.
  • Design end-to-end technical and integration architecture for Defence & Security solutions.
  • Ensure alignment of SAP D&S with SAP S/4HANA core architecture.

SAP D&S/DFPS Functional Coverage
Support and architect solutions across core Defence & Security capabilities, including:

  • Force Element Structures (FES)
  • Organisational Flexibility (OrgFlex)
  • Personnel and Resource Management
  • Operations Planning and Readiness
  • Maintenance & Logistics (EAM, PM, MM)
  • Defence Supply Chain Management
  • Fleet, Equipment & Asset Management
  • Classification, Serialisation and Tracking

Enterprise Integration

  • Architect and oversee integrations between SAP D&S and:
    • SAP MM, PM, PP, QM, SD
    • SAP HR/HCM
    • SAP SRM, WM/EWM
    • External defence systems and secure platforms
  • Define integration patterns using SAP CPI, IDocs, APIs, and secure interfaces.
  • Ensure compatibility with defence-specific add-ons and classified systems.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure secure interface design and data protection.

Project Delivery & Lifecycle Support

  • Participate in full life cycle SAP programmes: Blueprint - Build - Test - Deploy - Support.
  • Define and review functional and technical specifications for RICEFW objects.
  • Support data migration, cutover planning, and go-live readiness.
  • Support UAT, defect resolution, and knowledge transfer activities.
  • Provide post-go-live optimisation and hypercare support.

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure solutions comply with government security classifications and defence regulations.
  • Apply defence standards where applicable (eg MoD, NATO frameworks).
  • Support secure role and authorisation design (SAP GRC, PFCG).
  • Operate effectively within classified, regulated, and audited environments.

Key Skills & Experience
Essential

  • 5+ years of SAP experience within Defence, Logistics, or Asset-intensive environments.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP DFPS/SAP Defence & Security (D&S).
  • Strong experience designing and integrating SAP enterprise solutions.
  • In-depth understanding of defence logistics and operations, including:
    • Operational readiness reporting
    • Equipment and asset life cycle management
    • Maintenance planning and execution
    • Asset tracking and serialisation
    • Defence supply chain and provisioning
  • Experience working on secure or classified programmes.
  • Ability to work confidently with military structures, terminology, and operational models.

Desirable

  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA Defence & Security.
  • Knowledge of MoD and NATO standards (eg ACodP-1, LogFAS).
  • Background in end-to-end military logistics, including MRO, fleet, armaments, and equipment management.
  • Existing SC or DV clearance.

Soft Skills

  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, particularly with military and government users.
  • Structured, analytical problem-solving approach.
  • High attention to detail and strong documentation discipline.
  • Ability to operate calmly and professionally in regulated, high-security environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Engineering, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • SAP certifications preferred (MM, PM, EAM, S/4HANA Logistics, Industry Solutions).
  • Defence or government security clearance highly advantageous.
