Boston, MA, United States of America - $220K
Full Time

Series A | Mission-Critical Systems | 100% Remote (USA)

We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join a Series A systems startup (~40 engineers) building mission-critical platforms used for planning and high-stakes operational decision-making.

You'll own Back End systems that sit at the core of multiple products. These services power data-intensive workflows, Real Time APIs, async state machines, and event-driven pipelines that must work correctly under failure, retries, and real operational constraints.

What You'll Do:

  • Own Back End services and API design using FastAPI
  • Design and implement async workflows, state machines, and event-driven lifecycles
  • Ship production systems used across multiple mission-critical products
  • Work deeply with PostgreSQL on schema design, querying, and performance
  • Build pub/sub and background processing using Redis
  • Write tests, review code, and influence Back End standards and patterns

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong, production-level experience building Python Back End services
  • Proven ownership of production APIs and systems
  • Solid experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design and performance tradeoffs
  • Experience building asynchronous or event-driven systems
  • Comfort shipping and running containerized applications
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-moving, small-team environment

Geospatial or time-series systems (GeoAlchemy, Shapely, H3) or background in simulation, gaming, real-time, telemetry, or systems engineering would be a massive bonus

This role is:

  • 100% Remote (USA only) with HQ in Boston
  • Salary upto $220k
  • Additional benefits

If this sounds like the kind of Back End engineering you want to be doing, we'd love to talk.
