Talent Data Analyst
The Talent Department of Arnold & Porter has an opening for a Talent Data Analyst in our Washington, DC office. This role is designed for an analyst who enjoys working closely with people, understanding business context, and translating data into insights that drive decisions in addition to building technical solutions.
The Analyst will collaborate closely with Talent teams to help shape questions, interpret findings, and recommend actions based on data. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to present complex information clearly to non-technical audiences, alongside solid analytical and technical capabilities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Partnering with Talent teams (Attorney Recruiting, Career Development & Advancement, Legal Personnel, Professional Development, and Wellbeing) to understand business needs, clarify analytical questions, and determine the most effective way to deliver insights.
- Serving as a trusted advisor to Talent leadership by providing context, interpretation, and recommendations, not just data outputs.
- Designing, developing, and maintaining dashboards and reports that support Talent initiatives such as recruiting, attrition, evaluations, and performance.
- Translating complex data into clear narratives, written summaries, tables, graphs, and visualizations that highlight key findings and implications.
- Providing actionable insights and recommendations that inform strategic and operational decision-making.
- Ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality in all analyses and reporting.
- Conducting ad hoc analyses and participating in special projects, balancing competing priorities and timelines.
- Creating clear, user-friendly documentation and guidance to help stakeholders understand and use reports and dashboards effectively.
- Leading and coordinating data-related projects, including cross-departmental communication with Workforce Information Systems, IT, and other teams as needed.
- Identifying opportunities to improve reporting processes and recommending practical, user-focused enhancements to increase efficiency and impact.
Qualifications:
- Four-year college degree required; equivalent work experience considered.
- At least two (2) years of experience in a data analytics, business intelligence, or related role.
- Experience using Business Intelligence tools (such as Power BI) to create reports and dashboards that support business decisions.
- Working knowledge of SQL for data extraction and analysis.
- Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft M365 and/or related software.
- Ability to translate complex data into clear, easy-to-understand insights for non-technical audiences, both in writing and in conversation.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with teams, understand their needs, and help guide them toward effective solutions.
- Experience gathering requirements, asking thoughtful questions, and shaping analytical work to address real business needs.
- Ability to provide context, interpretation, and recommendations, rather than simply delivering data or reports.
- Familiarity with data visualization best practices and an eye for clear, effective design.
- Ability to produce clear, error-free, concise business documentation and user guidance.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Comfortable working with stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
- Law firm or professional services experience is a plus.
- Proven record of strong, effective communication skills when working with teams.
- Experience with workflow automation, additional analytics tools, cloud platforms, or firm-specific systems (eg, UKGPro, Aderant, Intapp or professional services systems) is a plus; training will be provided on firm-specific tools.
- Flexibility to work additional hours, as necessary.
