Marketing measurement, forecasting, and experimentation for fast-growing businesses

  • Director of Solutions Engineering
  • San Francisco, CA (hybrid, 3 days in person)

We reimburse eligible relocation expenses (up to $20k) for candidates relocating from outside the Bay area.

The company

Paramark helps Marketers optimize their spend across any number of channels and programs. There are proven scientific ways to do this, but they are poorly understood and practiced by only a tiny fraction of teams. Companies waste millions on campaigns that don't work, while failing to invest in critical long-term initiatives whose impact is harder to measure. Most are sorely lacking in both measurement and experimentation capability.

We're fixing this by creating a system of record that teams use to understand and forecast the impact of their Marketing, as well as to experiment with new ideas. The opportunity is huge: 300k+ mid-market businesses worldwide, spending $1T on marketing annually, with a large chunk of that going to waste. Our target customer spends between $10M and $100M on Marketing annually.

We founded the company in 2023 and are seeing strong traction. Our customers include brands like Square, Chime, Ramp, Haus Labs, and dozens more.

We work 3-5 days a week from our office in San Francisco. We thrive on in-person collaboration, but we also want to strike the right balance and give everyone the flexibility they need.

We've raised $8M from investors like Greylock and have several prominent CXO-level advisors and angels from companies like Open AI, Dropbox, Salesforce, PagerDuty, Miro, Webflow, Asana, Otter.ai, and Gong.io.

  • You'll lead our solutions engineering area. At Paramark, solutions engineers perform the hands-on ML for our customers. Its purpose is to delight our customers with quality, timely analysis that helps them find sustainable ways to make money.
  • You'll collaborate with and influence our data science, software engineering, and growth advisory teams in this role.
  • This year, you'll grow your area from 5 to 15 individuals and hire a senior manager who will report to you. We plan to continue growing this area as fast as possible.
  • You'll report to the CTO, Pete, who is currently leading the area directly.
Your role
  • You will become a domain expert in the ML workflows your team performs. You will leverage this expertise in a number of ways, such as constantly up-levelling your team. The technical challenges are some of the biggest in this role.
  • You drive efficiencies in your teams to improve throughput significantly over time. These will take many forms, including building tools, process improvements, and continuous learning and development.
  • You significantly influence product roadmap planning through multiple vectors, such as developing a simple and effective system to track inefficiencies impacting your team.
  • You influence the actions and outcomes of adjacent teams, starting with the product engineering, data science, and growth advisory teams.
  • Results
    • You ensure that your teams produce high-quality and timely analyses for our customers. You will always be tuning your teams to produce better and faster results. You understand that this effort will never be done.
    • You build self-organizing teams with helpful processes that they are constantly improving.
    • You partner with our Data Science team to improve our ML workflows and to train the solutions engineering team members accordingly.
    • You collaborate with our Growth Advisory team to ensure the analyses your team produces meet our customers' expectations.
  • Talent
    • You help your team members achieve their career goals while simultaneously hitting your team's goals, without sacrificing one for the other.
    • You don't lose sight of events on the ground with your teams. You deliver helpful feedback in real time.
    • You communicate high expectations to your team members clearly and hold them accountable for the same.
    • You recruit top talent for your team without sacrificing its diversity, and you design your hiring process accordingly. You understand that this is a both and requirement rather than an either or one. You take responsibility for hitting your hiring goals.
  • 10+ years of experience in a technical domain, with 5+ years as a manager, and 2+ years as a manager-of-managers. You will be the first manager we've hired in the technical team, and it's important that you've already had a chance to learn management, managing both ICs and managers. As an early-stage startup, our room for error is small.
  • You've worked at a startup with fewer than ~100 people. You'll rely on this experience when navigating the large degree of ambiguity in your role. You're very skilled at managing ambiguity, and it doesn't prevent you from getting things done.
  • High attention to detail. You understand what it takes to produce high quality results in complex situations, and you know how to develop this attribute across your teams.
  • Fluent in python and SQL. This is the baseline technical requirement for the individual contributors you will be managing.
  • Some experience with methods like machine learning, regression analysis, or A/B testing. We will help you build on this foundation to become an expert in our machine learning workflows.
Your interests
  • Growing as a manager and as a leader. You understand that this is never done and that you will learn from everyone you meet at Paramark, even our most junior team members.
  • Learning marketing, data science, and machine learning. You'll have a lot to learn, and you'll be excited about it.
  • Creating happy customers. Your choices will be guided by a passion to make our customers happy.
  • Creating a warm and welcoming company culture. Building a great product is only the beginning for us. We're equally passionate about building a company that we still want to work at 10 years from now, and you will play a huge role in making this happen.
Benefits and culture
  • Many of us have kids, family lives, and health problems to manage. We don't think early stage startup life requires 18 hour days, or even 12 hour days. We're intent on building a different kind of culture, one that is truly sustainable. That means reasonable working hours (we're out of the office before 6), taking a break when we need it, and checking in with each other. Our Purpose, Mission, and Values guide us.
  • Simple Time off policy : all federal holidays plus 4 weeks of PTO per year. Health comes first, and everyone needs to take time off to recharge and rejuvenate.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance provided with 100% of employee premiums/50% of family premiums covered.
