Chief Software Architect
Modern Technology Solutions Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Chief Software Architect to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) to the United States Space Force (USSF) Operational Command and Control (C2) Acquisition Delta. The role involves developing software and the supporting architecture for the organize, understand, plan, decide, direct, and monitor capabilities within the C2 Joint Capability Areas (JCAs) in the SETA role. The candidate will coordinate with the Acquisition Delta, lead and inspire new software innovations and products, and collaborate with cross-functional teams as a self-starter with initiative and strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities
Your essential job responsibilities will include but may not be limited to:
- Performing the duties of chief architect/chief engineer for the government customer as assigned.
- Developing a long-term architectural roadmap and identifying capability delivery milestones, key integration dependencies and delivery points, technical trade decision points, and Legacy system decommissioning status.
- Defining and documenting overall solution architecture and lifecycle roadmaps.
- Analyzing business requirements and developing technical network solutions.
- Documenting how applications and technology solutions support business needs.
- Developing and documenting, maintaining, and communicating current and future architecture design recommendations for the Space C2 and Delta-wide portfolios.
- Assessing the current architecture to identify technical debt and advising the Government on priorities.
- Identifying integration points for existing and new capabilities in the architecture roadmap, recommending prioritization to the Government as informed by requirements documentation and external integration analysis.
- Prototyping Architecture as Code and applying related practices for linking development backlogs.
- Evaluating technology trends against mission feasibility for future engineering trade studies.
- Developing presentations to summarize capability and technology recommendations for recurring government-hosted conferences.
- Working on high-visibility or mission-critical aspects of programs and performing all functional duties independently.
- Collaborating in consortium-style settings with multiple contractor and government participants.
- Providing guidance and direction to assigned staff, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Working with Information Systems Security Officers/Managers (ISSO/ISSM) to ensure architectural decisions align with security standards, particularly in a SAP environment.
- Providing expert support for virtual and physical networks, computers, servers, and appliances.
- Overseeing and maintaining a configuration management system to manage technical data artifacts and ensure their integrity and traceability to requirements.
- Generating governance policies and procedures to guide software development and program activities.
- Demonstrating strong communication and collaboration skills in remote/distributed team environments.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant DoD software architect work experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Special Access Programs (SAP) within the last 5 years.
- Chief Engineer level engineering skills and experience establishing, building, fielding, and sustaining secure, trusted core processing and communications architectures, including open systems standards.
- Experience in developing and coordinating comprehensive Space system interoperability requirements internal to the system and externally to BMC2 elements.
- Strong IT skills with proven problem-solving and leadership abilities.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps implementation and execution.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines operating in parallel.
- Fluency in multiple programming languages is strongly desired.
- Deep knowledge of software topics such as database design, content management systems, and enterprise service bus architecture.
- Experience with Mattermost, Jira, Jira Align, Confluence, and Outlook.
- Broad experience in software development for complex military systems, including systems-of-systems integration.
Desired Experience
- Familiarity with Kobayashi Maru Platform diagrams.
- Familiarity with Sparx tools.
- Experience generating governance policies and procedures for software development.
Education/Certification
- Relevant fields include mathematics, engineering, or related disciplines.
Security Clearance
- Top Secret, SCI eligible (Must be an active clearance holder).
- SAP eligibility (Counterintelligence Polygraph may be required).
Location and Travel
- Place of work is the El Segundo, CA area; remote work opportunities are limited.
- May travel up to 20% of time within the continental United States.
The pay range for this position in California is $170,000/year to $200,000/year. Base pay offered may vary based on government contract wages, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other factors. MTSI offers a full range of benefits.
