Overview
We're looking for an experienced Service Designer to support a government digital transformation project. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to design end-to-end services that meet user needs, align with organisational goals, and follow GDS standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of robust, user-centred services across digital and non-digital touchpoints.
- Map current and future service journeys, identifying pain points and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate closely with User Researchers, Product Managers, Interaction Designers, Business Analysts, and Technical Architects.
- Translate research insights into actionable service design artefacts (service blueprints, journey maps, process flows).
- Ensure services align with GDS principles, accessibility requirements, and departmental policies.
- Facilitate workshops, co-design sessions, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Support the development of prototypes and validation of service concepts.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of service design practices within the team.
Essential Skills
- Strong experience as a Service Designer within the UK public sector or similar complex environments.
- Proven ability to work within GDS delivery frameworks (Discovery, Alpha, Beta).
- Expertise in designing end-to-end user journeys and service ecosystems.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to clearly communicate service design rationale and insights.
- Experience producing high-quality service design artefacts.
- Active SC Clearance (must be in place before starting).
Nice-to-Have
- Experience working on large government programmes.
- Familiarity with agile delivery environments.
- Knowledge of policy-to-service alignment.
